... should have been the order of the day, but sadly I'm a bit lazy - been visiting Distortion Disco correspondent Mads in Berlin. It is really a small piece of weirdness in the centre of Europe, if you have a possibility go!
But now to the CSS review thing: On a scale of one to ten, I'd place them somewhere around nine. Really a good concert, but the sound at Loppen was too low, which normally is never the case. Lovefoxx, was more than great, a small explosive, dare I say it, sexy lead singer, which really is the key to this band's greatness. Highlights for me was Lets make love, and the waving of hands! Also the amazing amount of hipsters, who were at the concert was funny - interesting how word gets around and how obvious it is, when you have more than 5 people asking you 'Is this that Brazilian band' gesturing at the warmup band...

First of, sorry I never got around to reviewing the Klaxons concert on friday. It was really great actually! Here is my drunk meta review:
Rock, in some form, is taking back the clubs - and here I'm not just referring to the punk funk of The Rapture, DFA etc. The long story: Rock as a mainstream music genre started somewhere in the clubs, think way back to 50's era Beatles, but slowly and steadily grew to indoor arenas, outdoor parks, stadiums, etc. until it finally imploded in a massive ball of self masturbatory chords and scales in the late 70's early 80's (Of course it bred new things like punk and merged with disco, but seriously it died!). This of course was no bad thing, rock had gotten to pompous for it's own good, and for anyone to care. Instead, from within the clubs, new danceable tunes emerged with via disco, onto electronic music - This, in its mainstream form, has then gone on to take the route of it's grand parent on the mothers side, namely rock, and become to big for it's own good (Again a lot of new sub genres have emerged - electro(which is probably the next contender for to big for its own good), techno (which dodged the bullet in the late 90's), house (which to a certain extent got it's whiplash along with rucola salat a couple of years ago)). Think circa 2000's Basement Jaxx and Fatboy Slim, DJ'ing at the huge orange stage at Roskilde... Seriously, at the time it might have sounded like a good idea, but now it´s blatantly obvious that we are right back at masturbating arena style again (Note masturbation belongs in clubs and at home - If you are not Bruce Springsteen that is!). Finally we are back here in the late 00's where rock is trying to reinvent itself as a club genre - whether it will succeed is a matter of letting time do the telling, but for now Klaxons are doing good headway! In other words I thoroughly enjoyed the concert.

The Freelance Hellraiser made his name with the great bootleg of Xtina and The Strokes, A stroke of genius, which wasn't a lie in itself. He released an album back in July, know he's back with a remix of the band of the moment Klaxons. Adding just a touch of early 90's rave this track is ready for another round on the big tracks.
Booka Shade have really had an eventful year - from the digital underground to electronic mainstream faster than you can say "Wow, they are even better than hype said they would be!" As mentioned in a previous post I saw them live at Berghain in the spring, and from then on, it has been only one way traffic to the stars. I've actually heard them played on Danish mainstream radio!
The tunes today are two awesome new remixes by the German Wunderwaffe:
First one is of other Distortion Disco Favorite Tiga, 3 Weeks hadn't really gotten my attention when I heard it of the Sexor album, something was a bit off. Dunno what they've done, but now this track is completely on! There is a great dub version of this track as well, but do you really wanna miss Tiga's sexy vocals... I think not! Also checkout the breakdown halfway through the track, a musical tip of the hat to Anderssons Washing up! B.T.W. checkout the dahlbäck remix on the single as well.
Second track is a remix Azzido da Bass tune going throught the icy hip caverns of Booka, filled with the ever hip Shade of dance. I don't really have the speakers for this number, but I could imagine bass winds blowing when this track gets full blast. It's hard to put a finger on, but there is this really great understated quality to Booka Shade which seems to fit the present time really well. This remix carries exactly this quality, the same which made early single Mandarine Girl so great.
Distortion Disco went to see Bronx legends ESG on Saturday - I find it hard to give an adequate discription of the this wonderful old punkfunk band. Maybe if Diana Ross had complete creative control of a mixed band of the Rapture and Sonic Youth. A really good concert with the youngest Scroggins shakin' her booty, slowly seducing every member of the audience. We had a quick show of votes among the various men at the urinal afterwards - Verdict: We want big black women who know how to move! This band is a must if you get the chance. Hearing Moody had shivers raising down my spine!
The ESG tunes, all three of them display of the great slow building funk punk, for which DFA has a lifetime debt. Get A South Bronx Story (here) from Soul Jazz Records and make yourself a complete person.
Besides almighty ESG, we also saw a great new Danish band called Fabula Beat, a reggae outfit based on the remnants of Favelachic. I was only able to find the one song on their myspace, which is a bit surfy in their own words. I will get back to them when there is a release of something.
It's music week this week in Copenhagen because of some little award show? Basically it means that the centre of town is blocked by a huge stage, and that there is a lot good stuff to go hear around the various clubs. Yesterday I went to see one of my favorite Germans do his thing at A-Huset. If was of course none other than Schlagertechno prince Justus Köhncke - worst dressed man of electronic music! It was a real thrill seeing this extremely talented musician get a lazy crowd going after the revl9n concert. The obvious highlights were of course Timecode, Was ist Musik? and new favorite Advance. I would have killed for him to do Wo bist du?, but the setting clearly wasn't for world class eurovision songcontest sing along entry, so I wasn't that bummed about him not playing it. On top of the great set, he was nice enough to pose for a picture on my cellphone: I'm sorry about the dark picture, should probably had some flash or something - He actually tried some funny faces as well, but my cameraphone is not Nikon material.
After what was the highlight of my evening, some random gent called Thomas Trentemöller took stage... I haven't seen a Danish crowd go bunkers in the way they did yesterday. The reaction to Rykketid was nothing short of amazing. I can't really figure out how he has managed to break into the Danish mainstream, but he is incredibly populare here at the moment. (by the way for international readers Rykketid means Time to get going!)

Couldn't resist posting Justus classic Was ist Musik? This song doesn't offer the answer, but it does give a really good hint at what electronic music should be: i.e. catchy! His ultra kitch lyrics in this old gem, is nothing short of funny.
Second song is of the great Kompakt compilation Total 7 - Love and Dancing. Actually I think this title says more about Justus than anything else.
