Dancing Barefeet |
Todays post is dedicated to one of the few men of the moment right now: Tomas Barfod aka Tomboy aka 1/2 Filur aka 1/3 Whomadewho - Yep a busy man! He has, is and was releasing tracks on Gomma, Kitsune, Get Physical and Turbo Records... Take that who-ever is trying to get music released. I though will not do more writing on this soon-to-be legend of Danish dancefloors - Instead let's let Tiga do the talking:
"For most of my life, the only two Danes I knew were: GREAT Danes, those big dogs...and that big Danish goalkeeper. Then I started Djing all over and meeting lots of Danes. One of them was Tomas Barfod, a genius, who makes so much good music I have trouble keeping track. He's involved in WHOMADEWHO, he is TOMBOY, and he does more solo stuff as well. When I got a demo CD I freaked out and tried to sign all the tracks.....and this first 12inch on Turbo is the fruit of my labour (or I guess HIS labour). 4 tracks of magic, groovy house music. Moody, building trance-house. Chopped up funk-disco. I could try, like an idiot, to write more things like : funk-filled-groove-injected-modern-post-disco-house-bombs.... Or things like "aphex-twin shares a drum machine with etienne de crecy in a 70'd era duplex in chicago" Or I could just tell you a story about how I was at a hotel gym in LA, minding my own business, playing these tracks on the "ghetto blaster", trying to decide which ones I liked best...when in walks......MICHAEL DOUGLAS!!!!! ....and after "grooving" for a few minutes tells me "this music is great, man" Don't trust me....trust Michael Douglas: movie-star, oscar winner and SEX addict.....he LOVES Tomas Barfod. Love Tiga"
Seriously, a writeup including Michael Douglas?! Can't get better than that! Instead let's skip to the music, in order for you to skip down to your local 12" pusher and stock up on the Barfod projects.
First one is from Tomboy 4 on Gomma, a precourser to his new album, which apperantly is great? It reminds me of Wighnomy or some other German-sounding-a-bit-minimal-electronic -workout, but damn effective. Lookout for the complete chance of mood halfway during the track, it is really unexpected and works like a charm. Looking forward to the album.

Second track is a "normal" Barfod track track from the great Noughts and Crosses compilation released on the hip Tic Tac Toe Records way back in the start of this year. A nice calm piece of cello orientated dance music, very laidback and perfect for an early evening moodsetter.
